Question

Just a simple question. I want to make a pillow for a friend of mine but I don;t want to send a big package. So are there prefilled pillows in the USA for on a chair in the livingroom and how big are they, so that I can make a pillowcase that she will be able to use.

Yes, there are pre-made pillow forms that you just cover. They come in many shapes and sizes. You might want to look at Joann.com and do a search. Hope this helps.

As gail said, there's lots of options... I heard of someone who, to ensure it'd all fit together well, ordered a pillow form on line, to be shipped directly to the recipients home, and then sent the pillow cae.... :-)

I like to make pillows for people too, especially from scraps to match a quilt I made them.

I make the pillow any size, but put a zipper or velcro on the back. Then I write a note with the pillow giving people the idea that in the summer, they can use their winter 'puffy coat' or scarves, mittens, thick socks as filling.

In the winter, when they want to wear the down filled coats, they can use the pillow case as storage space for beach towels, sleeveless tops, or a folded summer quilt.

The only thing I do differently when making a storage pillow is to use extra thick batting for it, so the sometimes lumpy things inside don't show. :)

Sounds like you have a lot of good answers. Good luck.

It's pretty easy to find the square standard sizes of 12, 14 and 16. Inches.

Looks like all the answers you have received are good. Happy Anniversary on your blog. I celebrated one year this month also. May we spend another year togeather in blogland and enjoy reading about each others quilting and non-quilting adventures.
